What are the English Practice Groups?

We run the English Practice Groups all year round, at B1 and B2 levels. The lessons are taught by native and non-native English teachers as part of their training on one of our Teacher Training courses. We are currently running all our English Practice Groups entirely online through the Zoom application, downloadable for free. More information and a description on how to use Zoom is available at:”

The teachers are both native and non-native speakers, some of whom are just starting their teaching careers, and some of whom have teaching experience. Students don’t need to buy a book or any other materials, as the teachers provide these in the lessons. One can join the group after it has started, provided there are still available places.

What are the lessons like?

This is what our students have to say:

  • “The lessons are dynamic and interactive.”
  • “We spend a lot of time with speaking practice.”
  • “The lessons are cheerful. I like having a lot of different teachers.”
  • “We have learned a lot of new grammar and new words.”
  • “It helped me a lot with reading and listening.”

How can I enrol on a course?

Enrolling students must be at least 16 years of age, and must level-test into one of the two levels we offer, pre-intermediate/B1 or upper intermediate/B2.

To enrol please get in touch with us by email ( or phone (+36 1 212 4010). If you haven’t studied with our school before, you will need to do a level test, available online here: If you have studied with our school before or have filled in a level test before, please let us know when you apply.

Communications-oriented education

Ready to use knowledge of language

40 hours, cascading modules

Groups for all knowledge level

dreamstime_xs_6524541Our general English courses are communication based, focussing on developing skills that are useful in everyday life. The „student-friendly” Ih methods help language acquistion step by step, while assuring an instant knowledge, following the motto above.

Besides communication, we make sure to develop writing and receptive (reading and listening) skills as well. We teach grammar and vocabulary in context, providing examples that are easy to undertsand. The groups at Ih are often multinational, thus providing a situation when English is a ’must’, and used in an authentic environment.

Our courses consist of 40-lesson-modules (one module=one level), it is posible to join a course midway, depending on the level test. Based on the level system, one has to take 40/54 hours as many times as many modules are needed to achive the required level. Our level map follows the Common European Framework, thus assuring internationally unified and acknowledged determination of levels. (Please see the CEFR in the chart below.) This is useful if you wish to study abroad as the same system can be found all around Europe.

We use the New English File and Speak Out course book series that use listening and reading tasks to present grammar and vocabulary in context, teaching different areas and developing all major skills. Both series contain authentic material and authentic tasks that are important in everyday life (writing an email, CV, asking for directions, etc.)

In order to put students with similar abilities in the same group, we use our own internationally acknowledged level testing system with both writing and speaking elements.

Level Testing:

The level test consists of two parts, a written part and an interview.

We are available from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. No prior registration is required. The level test lasts approximately 45 minutes. Children take a customised test, our online test is not suitable for children.
